The new Administration Annex required construction to be completed in the center of the research facility between the publicly accessed Aquarium building, the existing administration offices and the scientist’s laboratories while keeping all of these facilities fully operational. The new facility continues Mote’s Master Building Plan and the construction relationship with Willis A. Smith Construction, Inc. which began in 1989. The building is three stories with administration offices, science laboratories, science office, retail gift shop, executive offices, conference rooms, 3,000 square foot marine science library and an atrium that serves as the main entrance to the new facilities as well as the existing aquarium and science buildings. The facility has videoconferencing capabilities used in Mote’s extensive educational outreach programs. Willis A. Smith Construction, Inc. value engineering reduced the project costs by over 19%.
